Face wipes are not a necessity. In fact, they are more of an add-on than an essential part of a skincare routine. But they are useful. Face wipes help in removing heavy makeup, especially eye makeup and mascara. Or so I hoped.
I recently happened upon Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes in the drugstore. Each wipe measures 7.09″ x 7.88″, or 18 cm x 20 cm, and comes pre-moistened in a combination of water, aloe, oil, and other ingredients. Although they are pre-moistened they don’t drip. Actually, these wipes could stand to be a little bit more moist. The pink grapefruit variety is made for normal to oily skin and has a delicious pink grapefruit fragrance. The plastic lid, which snaps closed, allows for convenient access.
These face wipes are great to keep in your gym bag, or use right when you get home to wipe off the day’s dirt, sweat and grime. They are also good to use for that same purpose right before you wash your face. Because they contain citrus oil, I wouldn’t use these wipes in the morning or after washing my face. The fact that these wipes contain alcohol also isn’t great, but it seems to be a minor ingredient.
While Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes remove some makeup, they are not good at removing mascara. This might be due to the formula, or to the fact that these towelettes could use a little more moisture. Regardless, if you’re looking for a makeup remover this might not be the product for you. But if you’re looking for a soft, convenient, and great smelling wipe to help keep your face clean, this isn’t a bad product to try.
