Mullein & Sparrow Facial Detox Set

A while ago Ipsy had a great deal on Mullein & Sparrow‘s Facial Detox Set.  I gladly took advantage of it, and recently made time to try out the products.  While one product did not survive the wait, all of the products are worth trying if you want a convenient kit to pamper your skin.

Facial Steam (1.5 oz)

Mullein & Sparrow’s Facial Steam is a pretty potpourri of lavender, chamomile, rose, and seven other ingredients.  The scent is floral and relaxing.  While the pros and cons of facial steaming are debatable, there can be no doubt that for those who do steam, steaming your face over this mixture would be incredibly pleasant.  I say ‘would be’ because I never got to use this facial steam.  Because I live in a humid climate I tend to store most of my beauty products in the fridge.  For some reason, I thought this facial steam would be fine at room temperature.  Not so. I went to use this about eight months after buying it, I found it had already spoiled.  Womp, womp.  Word to the wise: if you live in a humid climate it is best to store this facial steam in the fridge.

Facial Mask (1.0 oz)

First, I have to say that I love the jar that Mullein & Sparrow uses for its facial mask.  Truth be told, that may be the main reason why I bought this trio.  The reusable bottle and cork stopper is, hands down, the nicest face mask container I have come across.  The face mask itself is good.  It won’t replace my favourite bentonite clay and activated charcoal face mask.  But Mullein & Sparrow’s Facial Mask does what a face mask is supposed to do, with gentle yet effective ingredients.

This face mask includes four types of clay, rose, aloe vera, and lavender.  My first time using it, I mixed the mask using aloe vera juice and apple cider vinegar.  As the mask dried fumes started to burn my eyes, so I would not recommend that mixture.  The second time I used this mask I followed the directions and mixed it with aloe vera juice and a little warm water.  There were no harsh fumes and the mask still performed well.  If you are looking for a gentle face mask, or a pretty bottle, Mullein & Sparrow’s Facial Mask is definitely one to try.

Facial Serum (0.125 fl oz)

Mullein & Sparrow Facial Serum • chidibeauty.com
Mullein & Sparrow’s Facial Serum has an earthy, musky scent that is decidedly masculine.  Interestingly, it is almost the complete opposite of the floral scent of the Facial Steam.  The scent lingers, which is good if you like it.  Unfortunately, I am not a fan and, because I tend to be sensitive to scents, wouldn’t repurchase this serum.  But as much as I dislike the scent, I do like the serum itself.  This facial serum absorbs quickly and is non-greasy.  And while this 0.125 oz mini serum won’t last long enough to tell whether it is effective, the ingredients list boasts vitamin e, rosehip seed oil, carrot seed essential oil, immortelle, sandalwood, frankincense, myrrh, and a few other ingredients, all of which I feel good about putting on my face.  Also, the tiny size of this dropper bottle makes it a great travel product.  This serum is no longer included in the Facial Detox Set, but if you like the scent, or can get past it, the facial serum is a nourishing product you might enjoy.
